Last weekend marked one of the most highly anticipated events for social media users and YouTube subscribers. The live event, HelloWorld, took place at Birmingham’s Genting Arena and featured some of the world’s biggest and most popular YouTubers. Some of the influencers in attendance included: Tyler Oakley, Zoella, Jim Chapman, Saffron Barker, Alfie Deyes, Jake Mitchell, KSI, Caspar Lee and Oli White to name but a few.
Whilst the concept is like other YouTube creator events such as VidCon, HelloWorld Live was created by Influencers for their audience so that they can give back to viewers that give so much to them. It also allowed them to interact more personally with fans.
Within the event, there were many popup shops from the creators such as Sugg Life and Pointless Blog, which gave fans an opportunity to buy merchandise. There was also live Q&A sessions with top influencers, and performances from musicians including The Vamps.
Although the event seemed a success, HelloWorld Live received a lot of backlash. Fans turned to Twitter to express their thoughts, with one fan mentioning that the show was badly organised and overpriced, with tickets ranging from £27.50 to an astonishing £99. Some fans were also disappointed with the way they were treated by the creators themselves. However, this was the first time anything like this has been done, and hopefully they’ll learn from it next year.
While reviews and feedback may not have been overly positive, one thing that cannot be ignored is how evident it is that these influencers have created a brand within themselves, and have become so powerful that they can organise and host a sold-out weekend event.
